Hosted the Chamber Connection, a Friday morning get together by other chamber members to learn about other businesses. 55 people were given the history of Lakeland and how radio works. Tours given.

A 10th grader at BOLD High School did a job shadow from 8am – 12pm Her day started with the Q102 morning show and even participated in the broadcast. She also learned about commercial production and promotional audio with Tim Burns. MaryElin Macht visited with her on music scheduling and Mike Miller meet with her on radio sales. Also participated in a promotions meeting and offered her ideas and perspective.
February – June, 2013
Lakeland Broadcasting aired public service announcements for the Minnesota Broadcasters Association’s James Wychor Scholarship. The scholarship was for students interested in a career in radio or television broadcasting. Scholarship information and application was posted on Lakeland Broadcasting websites
February 20, 2013
A KMS Ninth grader did a job shadow from 8am – 10:30am. His day started with Q102 morning show and was included in the broadcast. Our news director, JP Cola visited with him on the function of the news department.
He learned about production and music scheduling from MaryElin Macht and learned about sales from Jena Hillenbrand. Also spent some time with our engineer Mike Schroeder learning the technical aspects.

Two tours were given to clients from West Central Industries. The tour was given by Mike Miller. Mike showed them how production of commercials were created, time spent in the on air studios on how on air programming
works and time spent in the new department.

Tim Burns and Jena Hillenbrand presented the Ridgewater Sales and Marketing class with an interactive slide on production and sales. Tim showed class what makes great and memorable ads and the ABC’s of writing a great ad. Jena discussed what Lakeland does differently to help make clients successful.

Chuck Blum gave a tour and program to the Renville Danube Cub Scouts And Webelow Pack. Tour and program consisted of the history of the station, careers in radio and how radio works. The scouts also
did some recordings.
April 20, 2013
Participated and sponsored in the i3@MTC Youth Science Retreat at the MinnWest Technology Campus in Willmar. 20 exhibitors show how science and technology are used in various careers. Our exhibit and two work stations set up so students could record scripts for radio commercials. They were able to take their audio and edit, add sound effects and music to create a commercial. A big screen was on the wall so students could see the process. Commercial were posted on our website for download. 60 students created commercials.

Participated in the Ridgewater College Career day for high school juniors and seniors. James Miller discussed the opportunies available in broadcasting. A hands on demonstration of digital recording and editing was available to students.
MaryElin Macht conducted training with Danny Tusa for a part-time on-air position. Besides the training for on-air duties, Danny was trained on weather, on-air formatics, commercials, transmitters, tower lights, EAS tests and more. Danny is now working as a part-time announcer with Lakeland Broadcasting.
August 2, 2013
A tour was given to five clients of the Prairie Lakes Boys Home in Willmar. The staff of Mike Miller, MaryElin Macht, Bob Stevens, Jena Hillenbrand and Paul Stagg showed them how commercials and promotional audio are created. Time was spent in the studios to see how on air programming and news works.
MaryElin Macht conducted training with Sam Johnson and Chris Ness for a part-time on-air position. Besides the training for on-air duties, Sam and Chris were trained on weather, on-air formatics, commercials, transmitters, tower lights, EAS tests and more. Both Sam and Chris are now working as part-time announcers with Lakeland Broadcasting.

A tour was given to 45 students and teachers from the MACCRAY High School. The group of 45 was broken up into smaller groups and each group learned about creation of commercials, time spent in our on air studios and
news department. Staff included: Mike Miller, Art Cruze, Jena Hillenbrand, MaryElin Macht, Ben Taylor and JP Cola.

The Leadership Perspective group from Willmar toured the Lakeland Broadcasting Company facilities. 45 people spent time learning how the production and commercials and promotional audio are created; time in our on-air studios to find out about how on air programming works and with the news department, J P Cola and Paul Stagg learning how news is gathered and determined what is aired.
