Wife, Family Friend Charged In National Guardsman's Death
(St. Paul, MN) -- The wife and a family friend of National Guard Sergeant Brandon Horst have been charged with second-degree murder in his shooting death. The 25-year-old was fatally shot in the head in the couple's St.Paul home on August 5th. Prosecutors say Heather Horst and Aaron Allen were after Horst's nearly 500-thousand dollars in military life insurance policies. Heather was the sole beneficiary. The criminal complaint says Heather Horst left a gun for Allen on their dining room table and he waited for Brandon to fall asleep before firing "one or two shots to the head." Allen is Horst's step-sister's fiance. Both suspects made their initial court appearances today (Mon) in Ramsey County.
