Man Pleads Guilty In Shooting/Rape Spree At Woodbury Motel
(Woodbury, MN) -- A man charged in a shooting and rape spree at a Woodbury motel last August has pleaded guilty to five felony counts and will be sentenced to at least 24 years in prison. The Star Tribune reports that Demetrius Ballinger entered a plea in Washington County District Court to one count of second-degree attempted murder and four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Ballinger held 11 people hostage during a standoff with police, shooting Marc Henderson Junior as he was trying to escape. In the confusion of the hostage situation, Henderson staggered out of the motel room and was fatally shot by Woodbury police officers. A grand jury later cleared the officers of wrongdoing.
