(St. Paul, MN) -- Republicans in the state Senate today (Wed) tried unsuccessfully to at least temporarily block a vote on the same-sex marriage bill that passed out of committee Tuesday. The Senate probably won't vote until May on whether to legalize same-sex marriage, but Republicans want any action delayed until there's a report on how it might affect the state budget. Cambridge Senator Shawn Nienow (NEE'-noe) says it's the right thing to do because lawmakers have a responsibility to taxpayers. But Saint Paul Democrat Richard Cohen says the governor in his budget proposal already included the cost of domestic partner benefits for state employees.
