American Crystal Asks High Court To Reconsider Jobless Benefit Ruling

(Moorhead, MN)  --  Moorhead-based American Crystal Sugar is asking the North Dakota Supreme Court to reconsider its decision granting unemployment benefits to about 400 union workers locked out of company plants at Hillsboro and Drayton, North Dakota.  Crystal contends the high court misinterpreted North Dakota law when it ruled the employees were entitled to as much as four-million dollars in jobless benefits.  But union Attorney Dan Phillips says American Crystal is "just arguing the same old things" and hopes the petition for a re-hearing will be denied fairly quickly.  The North Dakota Supreme Court ruling two weeks ago reversed an earlier decision by a district court judge that determined the workers were not eligible for benefits.
