(St. Paul, MN) -- Debate is expected to go into the evening in the state Senate on a controverial "health insurance exchange" -- an on-line marketplace where Minnesotans could compare and choose their health insurance. A seven-person board would decide which insurers are included in the exchange, and Republicans tried unsuccessfully to enlarge the board to 15 members. Brainerd Senator Paul Gazelka (guh-ZELL'-cuh) says they want to make sure that someone on the panel is a current expert. Bill sponsor, Kerrick Democrat Tony Lourey (LOR'-ee), responded they're not trying to exclude the health care industry's perspective -- but want to prevent any conflicts of interest so that board members are not being paid by someone in the industry.
