Mpls Meat Packing Plants Could be Affected by Sequestration
(Washington, DC) -- There are about 35 federally inspected meat packing plants in Minnesota, and they could be the first to feel the effects of the sequestration cuts that impact all federal departments with 10-percent across-the-board budget cuts. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says the way the sequester is structured, food safety inspectors would be furloughed. He says those furloughs will mean Minnesota meat packers will have to stop production on the days their inspector must take an unpaid day off.
