(St. Paul, MN) -- "We're taxing sick puppies and sick kittens," says Preston Republican Greg Davids about Governor Dayton's proposal to extend the sales tax to business services, including veterinarians. Dayton's revenue commissioner, Myron Frans, told a House committee the sales tax currently doesn't provide the kind of revenue source the state needs. Davids fired back, "so the sick cows and hogs we don't pay taxes on, but the sick puppies and kittens we do?" Frans responded when someone buys a dog or cat, they should be paying tax on that purchase, and on veterinary service as well.
