Federal, state gun control legislation being crafted

Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau (JUH-nay
HAR-toe) and Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek were among a small group of
law enforcement officials who met yesterday with President Obama in
Washington D-C on gun control. The president invited officials from three
communities recently affected by mass shootings: including police chiefs from
Aurora, Colorado, where 12 were killed in a July movie theater shooting, and
from Newtown, Connecticut where 20 first-graders were killed. Seven people
died last September at Accent Signage--in Minnesota's deadliest workplace
shooting. (MNN)

The Minnesota House public safety committee will hold hearings over three days next month to consider gun-related legislation. The ten bills will be presented including proposals to improve criminal background checks before buying guns and a plan that would allow teachers and school staff with conceal and carry permits to arm themselves in classrooms. The hearings are set to begin on February 5th.  (MNN)
