"Dear Abby" Dead At 94



(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Readers across the globe are mourning the death of the advice columnist known as "Dear Abby."  Ninety-four-year-old Pauline Friedman Phillips died Wednesday in Minneapolis following a battle with Alzheimer's disease.  She wrote the long-running "Dear Abby" column under the name Abigail Van Buren.  Her advice column started in 1956 and she penned it from her St.Paul home between 1964 to 1974.  Phillips' twin sister, Esther Friedman Lederer, wrote a competing column under the name Ann Landers.  She died in 2002.  They were both born July 4th, 1918 in Sioux City, Iowa.  Phillips' daughter now writes the "Dear Abby" column.
