(St. Paul, MN) -- A settlement has been reached between the state of Minnesota and a debt-buying company accused of filing unreliable court papers. Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson says Midland Funding filed more than 15-thousand lawsuits against Minnesotans, often based on very sketchy information. The settlement requires Midland to change its practices in Minnesota. This was the first lawsuit of its kind by a governmental agency against a debt buyer for so-called "robo-signing" and filing affidavits that haven't been verified or read by its employees.
