From Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office:
All highways in the Willmar/Kandiyohi County area have been closed. Most are lighted or marked as closed. No indicators are present on Hwy 71 North or Hwy 23 East, however these highways ARE closed. Advise no travel in Willmar/Kandiyohi County area. Plows are being removed from the roads shortly. Ramps are impassable, conditions are very poor. Plows will not be returning until 5:00 am 12/10/2012.
MnDOT closes highways in southwestern and west central Minnesota
Highways closed in Granite Falls, Madison, Marshall, Montevideo, Pipestone, Redwood Falls and Willmar
The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol have closed state highways in Granite Falls, Madison, Marshall, Montevideo, Pipestone, Redwood Falls and Willmar due to hazardous weather conditions caused by heavy snow and high winds. Motorists should reference www.511mn.org or call 511 to check the status of individual highways.
Motorists are advised not to travel until conditions improve and MnDOT and the Minnesota State Patrol open the road. The highways will remain closed until further notice.
Motorists should plan accordingly. When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced to 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
