(Pine City, MN) -- Authorities have released the names of the alleged perpetrator and the victim in last night's shooting and suicide in rural Pine County. The sheriff's office received a 9-1-1 call saying 55-year-old Dawn Christen texted that she had been shot by her ex-husband and he was still in the house. Deputies surrounded the home and attempted to talk 55-year-old Daniel Shilts away from the house but he refused. A SWAT team then went in to rescue Christen, who was found in a bathroom with a gunshot wound to the upper chest. The SWAT team then found Shilts on the living room couch holding a pistol to his head. Investigators say after about two hours of talks, Shilts shot himself and died at the scene. Christen was taken to a Duluth hospital where she's listed in serious condition. Authorities continue their investigation.
