-- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has denied a request to waive the Renewable Fuel Standard for ethanol. The request was backed by some end-users of corn who said the fuel standard, combined with the drought, has driven up the price of corn -- causing economic harm to livestock farmers. But the E-P-A disagreed. Minnesota Corn Growers Association executive director Tim Gerlach says they urged the E-P-A not to make a short-term, knee-jerk reaction and are "very pleased" with the decision. Meanwhile a coalition of livestock groups issued a statement this morning expressing "extreme disappointment" with the EPA's ruling.
