Woman Pleads Guilty To Stealing Disaster Assistance Money

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  A Louisiana woman pleaded guilty today (Tues) to stealing more than 34-thousand dollars in disaster assistance from FEMA while a Minnesota resident.  Thirty-year-old Vianca McCarter admitted to falsely claiming that she lived in New Orleans in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit but was actually living in Minnesota.  She told FEMA that her personal property had been damaged and she needed emergency rental assistance.  However, prosecutors say McCarter was living in subsidized housing in Minneapolis from October 2004 through November 2009.  She faces up to ten years in prison.
