Gophers begin the Philip Nelson era at QB

(Minneapolis, MN) -- 10-24-12-- Golden Gopher head football coach Jerry Kill says he
expects to play his true freshman quarterback Phillip Nelson again this
weekend. In fact, Kill says once he took the redshirt off of the youngster
from Mankato that he would be playing most of the snaps under center.
MarQueis Gray continues to recover from injury and has been penciled as a
wide receiver the rest of the season. Max Shortell is getting healthy and
could see some time, but for now, expect Nelson to get a bulk of the
repitions in games and practices. Minnesota needs two wins in its final five
games to secure bowl eligibility. The Golden Gophers host Purdue on Saturday
at 2:30 p.m. at TCF Bank Stadium. (MNN)
