Farm Country Schools Putting Fresh Produce on Students' Plates
(Various) -- It only makes sense that several school districts in the farmland of southwestern Minnesota are bringing more fresh produce to the plates of students. Lindsay Ourada (Oar-AH'-dah), a registered dietician at Southwest Health and Human Services, says it's an effort to improve diets and cut into the problem of overweight children. Ourada says school food service directors have purchased local produce and have started school gardens which have been successful. School districts in Rock, Pipestone, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray and Redwood counties are now part of the "farm to school" program.
