(Karlstad, MN) -- The Red Cross is assisting families who lost their homes in a wildfire near Karlstad. Fire officials say seven houses and more than a dozen other buildings were destroyed. On Tuesday, several hundred residents were evacuated when winds shifted and the fire roared into a section of the town of about 800 people. The fire started in grasslands several miles south of Karlstad around noon Tuesday. As many as 200 firefighters from 16 departments battled the fire, getting it largely contained last night.
