9-4-12 -- Minnesota's pheasant population is on the rebound after a low harvest in 2011, according to figures just released by the D-N-R. Wildlife biologist Kurt Haroldson says the pheasant population is up 68 percent -- a move in the right direction -- but notes the 2011 population was very low due to two harsh winters and a cold, wet spring. Haroldson says even though last winter was very mild, it will take more than one year for the pheasant population to get back to where it was. The D-N-R predicts pheasant hunters will take about 290-thousand roosters this fall, versus a ten-year average of about 460-thousand birds.
