8-29-12 A recount will be held this morning at the Meeker County Courthouse in Litchfield to double check the vote totals of two candidates in the 5th District Meeker County Commissioner primary race. The recount will take place in the Board Room at 10 a.m. Meeker County Auditor Barb Loch says Marlys Houk requested the recount after finishing 3rd in the race, just two votes behind Ben Smith who received 62 votes. Smith has withdrawn from the race because he s moving to a residence just outside of the 5th District. Loch says only the ballots cast for Smith and Houk will be counted. She says, despite the outcome, it will be too late for Houk s name to appear on the ballot, but she may decide to coordinate a write-in campaign. Mike Huberty of Eden Valley received the most votes in the contest and his name and Smith s will both appear on the ballot in November for the Meeker County 5th District Commissioner seat. (KLFD)
