State Lottery Sets Sales Records

8-17-12 (Roseville, MN)  --  The Minnesota State Lottery set a number of new records during fiscal year 2012 which ended June 30th.  Ticket sales reached 520-million dollars...more than 123-million was raised for the state...payments to players were 320-million...and retailers earned over 31 million in commission and incentives -- all of those numbers are records.  Director Ed Van Petten notes they started the year in the hole because of the state government shutdown.  Van Petten says most of the credit for the record sales goes to lottery staff because he started his position in March.  He says the one-dollar increase in the costs of a Powerball ticket is one of the reasons for the successful year.
