U-S Senate Candidates Clash Over Renewable Fuel Standard
8-8-12 (Redwood Falls, MN) -- The candidates for U-S Senate squared-off on agriculture issues today in a debate at Farmfest near Redwood Falls. They were asked, should the renewable fuel standard be waived for the rest of 2012 and 2013? Democrat Amy Klobuchar says no -- that it's been really important for Minnesota as one of the top producers of renewable fuels. But Republican U-S Senate candidate Kurt Bills says the renewable fuel standard has jump-started that industry as intended, and now should be phased out. Independence candidate Glen Menze (MEN-zee) says there should be flexibility on the renewable fuel standard, but the government needs to be consistent so farmers can plan.
