Floodwaters Slowly Receding in Aitkin County, Big Sandy Lake
6-29-12 (McGregor, MN) -- Flooding continues in parts of Aitkin County in northeastern Minnesota. Flood information officer Lynn Mizner says the city of Aitkin was able to hold its own and things look good. She says it appears Big Sandy Lake has crested but the water levels remaing high. Many homes are flooded and many of the roads around the lake are impassable.
A flood warning continues along the Mississippi River near Aitkin. Mizner says a flood resource center remains open in McGregor and counselors are hand to help people with personal needs.
