Obama Signs Troop Post Deployment Benefits Bill Into Law
5-25-12 (Washington, DC) -- President Obama signed legislation into law today (Fri) that ensures Minnesota National Guard members receive the paid leave and benefits they earned. Congressman John Kline sponsored the bill in the U-S House and Senator Amy Klobuchar pushed it through the Senate. The measure "grandfathers" soldiers impacted by a recent change in a post-deployment program. The Pentagon made the move after more than two-thousand Minnesota troops were deployed to Iraq and Kuwait. Some members of the 34th Infantry Red Bull Division would have lost more than 27 days of paid leave under the new policy.
