Teens Trying To Catch Girl's Eye When Car Rear-Ended Semi

8-8-120(Eau Claire, WI)  --  A triple-fatal crash on I-94 near Hudson, Wisconsin last week is being blamed on distracted driving while teenage boys were trying to get the attention of a girl in another vehicle.  Investigators say the driver, 17-year-old Zachary Zajec, was looking for a piece of paper so they could write their phone number on it and hold it up to the window, when their car rear-ended a stopped semi-trailer at 65 miles an hour.  The teens were returning to New Richmond, Wisconsin after shopping in Woodbury.  Zajec's father admits that boys can be distracted by the opposite sex while driving, but wants to know why a construction zone warning sign was not illuminated at the time of the crash.
