Senators, Congresspeople Urge Obama To Sign Minnesota Disaster Declaration
7-2-12 (Washington, DC) -- Members of Minnesota's congressional delegation are urging President Obama to quickly issue a federal disaster declaration for 13 Minnesota counties and three tribal nations affected by recent storms and flooding. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, and U-S Representatives Collin Peterson, Betty McCollum, John Kline and Chip Cravaack say Governor Mark Dayton has determined the damage is beyond the capability of state and local governments to address on their own. If a disaster declaration is approved, the federal government would fund 75 percent of the cost to repair and replace public infrastructure damaged by storms and flooding.
