Prairie Pothole Day is today

The big day has arrived for outdoorsman and conservationists...It's Prairie Pothole Day. Around 4000 people are expected to descend on Roger and Kay Strand's Stoney Ridge Farm today near the intersection ofHighways 9 and 71 northwest of New London. This this the 30th year for Prairie Pothole Day, and Event President Troy Heck says it's more than just about duck hunting...it's about celebrating the outdoors.  The event is put on by the Prairie Pothole Chapter of the Minnesota Waterfowl Assocation. Heck says there will be about 75 tents for exhibitors and vendors, and this year they have more seminars than ever.  3-time champion goose caller Scott Tynan will also be there. Dogs are always a highlight of Prairie Pothole Days with the slough scoot, where dogs run and retrieve duck dummies that are launched with an enormous slingshot, and long distance dog jumping.  There are many games and activities for kids, and Heck says there are around 300 prizes being raffled off and a silent auction. There is no admission charge to Pothole Days but people are encouraged to buy a raffle ticket. The gates open at 9 and things wrap up around 5. And Heck says by Sunday, everything will be gone from Stoney Ridge Farm and there will just be crop circles as reminders of another Prairie Pothole Day.  (KWLM)
