Mankato Couple Pleads Not Guilty To Starving Their Child

(Mankato, MN) --  A North Mankato couple has pleaded not guilty to starving their adopted son.  An attorney for Russell and Mona Hauer says the couple has also filed a motion to dismiss charges of child neglect, endangerment and abuse.  Authorities say the Hauer's eight-year-old son hadn't been given solid food for two months and when taken to the doctor, he weighed just 34 pounds.  A trial on whether to terminate the Hauers' parental rights is scheduled to start Monday.  The boy who was allegedly starved remains is foster care.  The couple's other three children remain with their parents.  A criminal trial is scheduled for May.  The Hauers are each charged with six felonies.
