Halloween Safety

(St. Paul, MN) -- The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is out with a new tip for people carving their jack-o-lanterns. Deputy State Fire Marshal Becki White says instead of cutting out the top of the pumpkin like most people do, you can carve it from the bottom. White also recommends using flameless candles or glow sticks in other decorations and trick-or-treat buckets and bags. She says too many Minnesotans end up in the emergency room every Halloween because of candle-related injuries.
