Franken Backs Jail Mental Health Bill

(Washington, DC)  --  Senator Al Franken announced today (Wed) that he's backing a bill that would increase funding to combat mental health problems in U-S jails.  Franken says with five percent of the world's population, America has 25 percent of the world's prisoners  -- and a lot of them should be getting treatment rather than being in prison.  The bill would continue federal funding for courts that divert the mentally ill from prison into treatment.  It also would fund treatment courts that help support veterans.
