4-Vehicle Accident Near Clara City



(Willmar, MN)  The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced short-term road closures on Highway 23 and Highway 7 near Clara City on Saturday evening, due to the squalls.  At times, drivers faced near white-out conditions and in addition to the blowing snow, there were scattered slippery spots.  There was an accident involving four vehicles late Saturday afternoon, north of Maynard on highway 23.  Karen Haukos, age 60, of Raymond and Wayne Haukos, also 60 and of Raymond, had pulled their Ford Windstar van off onto the shoulder of the road, due to whiteout conditions, when a Chevy Impala driven by Mohamud Mohamed, age 28, of Marshall, rearended them.  Passengers in the Mohamed car were Hibo Mohamed, age 27 of Marshall, Abdinoor Shuriye, age 25 of Marshall, Ali Abdi, age 21 of Marshall and Ismail Feisal, age 21 of Willmar.  Upon impact, the Windstar was pushed into the traffic lane, where it was struck by a Ford Ranger driven by William Burggraff, age 78 of New London.  Jacqueline Burggraff, age 69 of New London, was a passenger in the Ranger.  In reaction to that collision, a Toyota driven by Ruth Roufs, age 59 of St. Cloud, rearended the Impala.  Passengers in the Roufs car were Margaret Hagermeier, age 82 of Albany and Paul Roufs, age 55 of St. Cloud.  There were non-life-threatening injuries reported in the collision, however the condition of the people in the Toyota were not documented at the time of the report.  AT the time of the accident, the roads were reportedly icy, with near whiteout conditions.
