4-12-12 Gone in the blink of an eye

When I got to work Tuesday morning I thought it would be just a typical day, with the typical stories, typical schedule, so on and so forth.   Then one hour into the day came a text that froze my heart.   One of my best friends was dead.   He took his own life, and no one can figure out why.   The main thing I'm getting out of this whole nightmare is to get rid of hate, hang on to love and live like today could be your last day, or your loved one's last day.   You just never know.   I plan to speak at my friend's funeral, and next week I will put down what I said.   My friend had a lot of friends, and the church will be full.   Can every one of say the same?   It's a sad but telling mark of a successful life.

On a lighter note...the Twins started their season this week and began 2 and 4.   There was a rousing come-from-behind-and hang-on-for-dear life thriller Thursday at Target Field.   So many homers they should have given the fans hard hats in the outfield stands.   The Stingers unveiled their new mascot this week...Barry the Bear.   A big yellow bear that looks like it would be a good mate for Big Bird.   The kids should love it.   Do you know anyone with the athleticism and endurance needed to be a team mascot?   If so, call The Stingers.

On top of mourning my friend, it's been a very busy week, with the Olivia Chamber of Commerce Banquet (we won Business of the Year!) on Monday, two Barn Theater Board Meetings on Tuesday, teaching religious education at St. Mary's on Wednesday, opening night for "Born Yesterday" at the Barn at Thursday, and the Women's Shelter Banquet on Friday.   And a funeral on Saturday.   Thanks goodness the legislature had the week off, giving me a chance to breath a little in the news room.
