3-27-12 Trayvon Martin, Early Adjournment Fever

It seems every news cast you see or hear these days has clips from the latest rally for Trayvon Martin, the teen shot and killed by a neighborhood watch captain in Florida earlier this month.   You hear the rage from African Americans that the shooter, George Zimmerman, who is half Latino, has not been arrested.   Zimmerman has been painted as a racist and a vigilante who shot and killed Martin with no provocation simply because he was black.   But political correctness has prevented you from hearing the rest of the story.   All you are being allowed to hear is that Martin was a nice, funny kid, never in trouble with the law, carrying candy and ice tea when he was shot and killed.   But when news came out this week regarding the circumstances of the attack, Martin's family's screams were amplified.   Martin, 6 feet 1 with gold teeth and wearing a hoodie, was trespassing in a gated neighborhood and reportedly attacked Zimmerman first and slammed his head on the concrete before Zimmerman fired the shot.   Zimmerman said he suffered a broken nose and neck injuries in the attack.   Martin had been staying with his father because he was suspended from school because police found a baggie with marjiuana residue in it in Martin's backpack.    So before you don a hoodie in support of Trayvon Martin, make sure you know just who you're supporting.   Zimmerman is also no angel...when he phoned in a report to the police that he was suspicious of Martin, he was told not to follow him, but he did anyway.   If he would have kept his distance the lad would be alive and Zimmerman would be able to continue patrolling his neighborhood.   He hasn't been arrested (yet) because police believe he was defending himself.   But political pressure will evenutally prevail and they will arrest him on something, I'm sure.   And if he is not convicted of anything short of murder, there will be riots.   Zimmerman has been in hiding since the incident and if he's smart he'll get out of dodge before he's arrested, convicted and hanged by the court of political correctness.  Florida has a law, similar to the one Minnesota is considering, that allows the use of lethal force if you feel threatened.   Maybe Zimmerman can get the dream team back together...you remember, the one that got double murderer O.J. Simpson off.  Oh, wait a minute, Zimmerman is the wrong color.

Ever since the legislative session began lawmakers started talking about getting their work done and adjourning early.   That would be nice, considering the catastrophe last year.   However, the key part of the equation is "getting their work done" and in my view, if they don't pass a Viking's stadium bill, this session will have been a failure.   Oh sure, they will have put the anti-union "Right to Work" bill on this November's ballot, and after Norm Coleman and Tom Emmer were beaten by Democrats in narrow elections, they will be putting the "Voter I.D." amendment on the ballot also.   Those are items the legislature wants, but poll after poll shows the PEOPLE want them to pass a Viking's stadium bill.    After the City of Minneapolis put their nose under the Arden Hills tent and got themselves in the running for a site, even the ultra-liberal Minneapolis City Council has agreed to the plan which will fund the stadium with no general fund dollars or tax increases, leaves the indian casinos alone and leads to no expansion of gambling.   But now the legislature will use the "adjourn early" mantra as a reason not to pass a Viking's stadium bill.   They will get what THEY want in the form of anti-DFL constitutional amendments, but the PEOPLE won't get what they want.   Again, if they adjourn without a Vikings' stadium bill, I believe the people need to express their displeasure at the polls this November.
