My wife and I attended the wedding of my friend Randy Czarnetzki and his fiance Susie Dunlap on Saturday. Both had been married before and wanted to have a some fun at wedding number two, and decided to have it on the ice of the "Blue Line Club" building at the Willmar Civic Center. Randy and Susie are both fanatics of the sport of curling, and members of the curling club created an archway for people entering the ice sheet/wedding chapel. Their rings were attached to curling "rocks" and the "minister" was curling club member Art Benson. Susie's kids played a song before the ceremony celebrating the joys of lovemaking for middle-aged married people...in other words, after the adventure and sponteneauty are gone, there's still business to be done. It was a hilarious and heartwarming ceremony, with a touch of "randi-ness" put on by a fun couple who were lucky enough to find each other. Susie's mom was there, as well as Randy's parents and the couple's 5 kids and 2 grandchildren. The reception was a good old fashioned pot luck at the Civic Center, and everyone brought gag gifts. I gave them a Chewbacca key chain because Chewbacca and Czarnetzki both start with C and almost have the same amount of letters, and because I hope Chewbacca's loyalty to Han Solo will be an example for Randy and Susie to follow.
As you no doubt have heard, Senator Gary Kubly passed away March 2nd. He was suffering, and his suffering is over. Granite Falls Lutheran Church was filled to overflowing last Wednesday, attended by friends, family, lawmakers and even Governor Dayton. We had his picture on the table during the Legislative Review Show at the KWLM Spring Show on Saturday.
Let's face it folks...winters in Minnesota are nasty and miserable to the point of often being deadly. Winter never came this year. Let's just accept this gift from The Lord and not wait for the other (snow) shoe to fall. I took my bike down from the rafters on Saturday and went for a 20 mile bike ride yesterday. It was glorious, and has inspired me to ride in the Habitat 500 this summer. More details to follow!
